Exhibition in Paris: Kaiso Hayashi 林海宗《道 - do》
The Artscene is pleased to present the exhibition 《道 - do》 in Paris for the Japanese calligrapher Kaiso Hayashi.
His works go beyond the boundaries of traditional calligraphy, embracing the artistic expression of contemporary calligraphy. The exhibition focuses on the 'Way' that the calligrapher Kaiso Hayashi expresses through the pursuit of his art.

【Biography】
Calligrapher Kaiso Hayashi 林海宗
Kaiso Hayashi was born in Shizuoka, Japan in 1987 and raised in Kobe, Japan. He began practicing calligraphy at the age of four. In 2018, he encountered the esteemed calligraphy master Saiso Shimada, under whose guidance he began to pursue the art of calligraphy seriously. He is a lecturer at the Faculty of Wellbeing at Musashino University and a research fellow at the Keio University Graduate School.
[FR] Kaiso Hayashi est né à Shizuoka, Japon en 1987 et a grandi à Kobe, Japon. Il a commencé à pratiquer la calligraphie dès l'âge de quatre ans. En 2018, il a rencontré le maître calligraphe estimé Saiso Shimada, sous la direction duquel il a commencé à poursuivre sérieusement l'art de la calligraphie. Il est enseignant à la Faculté de Bien-être de l'Université de Musashino et chercheur associé à l'École Supérieure de l'Université Keio.
【Artist’s Comment】
The Way, or 'Do (道)', can be described as a lifelong journey of personal growth through a specific practice. I first held a brush when I was four years old, and there have been times when becoming one with the brush has provided me with solace.
Even as an adult, under the guidance of my mentor, I have not only honed my calligraphy skills but also developed as a person. In this sense, the Way of calligraphy has brought me encounters with wonderful people at just the right times, and it has saved and refined me.
Now, while I am still on this path, I am fully committed to calligraphy as my life's work. With this exhibition, I want to introduce the art of calligraphy to the people of Paris and share a glimpse of my own journey. That is why I chose 'The Way' as the theme of this exhibition.
[FR] Le 'Do', ou la Voie, peut être décrit comme un parcours de croissance personnelle tout au long de la vie à travers une pratique spécifique. J'ai tenu un pinceau pour la première fois à l'âge de quatre ans, et il m'est arrivé de trouver du réconfort en me fondant dans le geste de l'écriture. Même adulte, sous la direction de mon maître, j'ai non seulement perfectionné ma technique de calligraphie, mais j'ai aussi grandi en tant que personne. En ce sens, la Voie de la calligraphie m'a permis de rencontrer des personnes extraordinaires aux moments opportuns, et elle m'a sauvé et affiné.
Aujourd'hui, bien que je sois encore en chemin, je me consacre pleinement à la calligraphie comme métier. Avec cette exposition, je souhaite présenter l'art de la calligraphie aux Parisiens et partager un aperçu de mon propre parcours. C'est pourquoi j'ai choisi 'La Voie' comme thème de cette exposition.
道とは、ある特定の稽古を通じた一生をかけた人としての成長の道程ということができると思います。 僕は四歳で初めて筆を握りましたが、筆を持ち無心になることで時に救われてきた経験があります。 また、大人になってからも師匠からのご指導により、書道の技術だけではなく、人としても磨いていただいています。
そういう意味で、書道という道によって、それぞれのタイミングで素晴らしい方々との出会いがあり、そして自身が救われ磨かれてきました。 今、僕はまだまだ道半ばですが、生業として書道に向かい合っています。 そんな書道をパリの皆さんにご紹介し、また自分の道の一端を示したく、”道”を今回のテーマとしました。

I am pleased to have produced the exhibition 《道 - do》and his first international solo exhibition in Paris for the Japanese calligrapher Kaiso Hayashi.
Mastering something is like an endless journey on a road with no fixed destination. What does it mean to live for the art of calligraphy?
I hope this exhibition allows you to feel something profound through the "道" that Kaiso Hayashi expresses in his works.

J'espère que cette exposition vous permettra de ressentir quelque chose de profond à travers le « 道 » que Kaiso Hayashi exprime dans ses œuvres.
書道家・林海宗（Kaiso Hayashi）の個展《道 - do》をプロデュースいたしました。そして彼にとって初の海外個展をパリで開催できること、とても光栄です。
何かを極めることは、終わりのない道を進む旅のようなものです。書の道に生きるとは、どういうことなのか。
この個展を通じて、書道家・林海宗が描き出す「道」から何かを感じていただければ、プロデューサーとして冥利に尽きます。
